UTC’s research arm expanding to Europe

Hartford’s United Technologies Corp. says it will open an Irish research branch to collaborate with European partners in technology for energy efficiency and sustainability.

United Technologies Research Centre Ireland will open with 10 to 15 scientists and engineers within a year, and will eventually employ about 40 people in several years.

UTC Research employs a total of about 500 scientists and engineers, most of them at its East Hartford headquarters, and the rest in branches in Berkeley, Calif., and Shanghai, China.

The 81-year-old unit supports research and development for UTC’s jet- and rocket-engines, elevator and building infrastructure and services, heating and air conditioning, fire and security systems and power generation.
