UTC’s Carrier inks pair of cool deals

Farmington air-handling equipment maker-distributor Carrier Corp. says its Georgia building-management solutions division has expanded in Virginia via an acquisition.

Separately, Carrier said it signed a letter of intent with its Swedish partner, G & L Beijer AB, to distribute for Carrier the Toshiba brand residential and light commercial air-conditioning products in 11 European countries.

Carrier said its Automated Logic Corp. division in Kennesaw, Ga., paid an unspecified sum for one of ALC’s most productive dealers, AERO Integrated Solutions Inc., of Glen Allen, Va.

Carrier is a unit of United Technologies Corp. in Hartford.

AERO designs, installs and services building control systems for schools, government and commercial offices, and data centers, throughout Virginia. It has been an Automated Logic dealer since 1989, Carrier said.

AERO president Steve Loving and his team will stay on board, Carrier said.

In the European deal, Carrier has a pact with Toshiba to market air conditioners outside Toshiba’s Japan home market.

G & L Beijer is mainly a refrigeration and air-conditioning distributor. Carrier owns 41.4 percent of G & L Beijer.

According to Carrier, its Toshiba brand distribution operations in these 11 European countries accounted for about $200 million in sales and 150 employees. As part of the agreement, Carrier would turn over those assets to Beijer in a cash transaction.
