Boeing Co. is retaining UTC Aerospace Systems to do landing-gear system maintenance for the Air Force’s flying cargo workhorse, authorities say.
Meantime, another United Technologies Corp. unit, Pratt & Whitney Co., has begun aerial tests on the version of its PurePower turbofan engine slated to propel the Airbus neo line of jetliners.
UTC Aerospace, comprised of remnants of former Goodrich Corp., will coordinate with Utah’s Hill Air Force Base to do landing-gear repair for Boeing’s C-17 Globemaster III. UTC Aerospace is the gears’ original maker.
Financial terms weren’t disclosed.
At Pratt, following ground tests, its PW1100G-JM engine recently successfully logged its first flight mounted to a Boeing 747 test mule on May 15 at its Mirabel, Quebec, Canada, aerocenter, launching the engine family’s flight test program.
Certification for the engine is planned for third quarter of 2014 with entry into service planned for the fourth quarter of 2015.
