United Technologies Corp., Hartford parent to Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne in Palm Beach County, Fla., plans to expand its UTC Fire & Security Global Security Products division in Boca Raton, The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
The fire and security division will add 22 new jobs through 2013; the division currently employs 111 people in Boca Raton, the newspaper said on its Web site, citing county economic development officials.
UTC Fire & Security also plans to construct a new fire research and development test center at a location to be determined. The Pratt & Whitney campus in northwestern Palm Beach County is under consideration.
The expansion makes the company eligible for $110,000 in Florida tax refunds, with a required local match of 20 percent, the newspaper reports.
UTC also qualifies for state funds from the Quick Action Closing Fund, if there is a match of $62,000. The city of Boca Raton and the County Commission agreed on June 8 to commit $31,000 to the jobs project, according to the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County.
The return on investment from construction of the new Boca Raton building is expected to generate about $65,000 in annual property taxes for Palm Beach County.
