The U.S. space agency NASA has chosen Hartford’s United Technologies Corp. and five other aerospace manufacturers to help it quicken the time it takes to develop composite materials from the laboratory for use on aeronautics vehicles.
NASA chose UTC and the other companies based on technical expertise, their willingness to share costs on collaborative research, experience certifying components and past partnerships.
The first tasks of the Advanced Composites Project will be for the partners to develop articles of collaboration, establish how the alliance will work and how companies may be added in the future.
The other manufacturers are Bell Helicopter Textron, GE Aviation, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems and Boeing Research & Technology.
