Hartford conglomerate United Technologies Corp. will be the presenting sponsor for the annual professional women’s tennis tournament in New Haven, tournament officials announced Monday.
The event formerly known as the New Haven Open at Yale now will be called the Connecticut Open presented by United Technologies.
The 16-year-old tournament has not had a title sponsor since Pilot Pen pulled out in 2010. That also was the last year the event was a joint professional men’s and women’s tennis tournament.
This year’s tournament will be held Aug. 15-23 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale University in New Haven. The event generates an estimated $26 million a year in regional economic activity.
