A Washington state subsidiary of Hartford conglomerate United Technologies Corp. will equip the U.S. Air Force helicopters with armor systems.
LifePort, Inc. of Woodland, Wash., has spent the past five years working with the USAF to develop the company’s Improved Ballistic Armor Sub System, which includes ballistic seat pallets to improve crew safety. LifePort is the aftermarket subsidiary of Stratford helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky Aircraft Corp.
The iBASS systems will begin being delivered this month and will be installed in the USAF’s fleet of Sikorsky Pave Hawks by September.
Financial terms of the deal, signed Wednesday, were not disclosed.
Sikorsky is a UTC subsidiary.
