Shares in United Technologies Corp. were cresting in trading Tuesday morning close to the 52-week high of $79.48 for the Hartford diversified conglomerate.
In late morning trading, UTC shares were up 31 cents to $79.28 a share on the New York Stock Exchange, putting its market capitalization above $73 billion.
UTC’s robust trading comes a day after its East Hartford jet-engine division, Pratt & Whitney Co., said that a new propulsion system the company is developing has been cleared for flight in the Lockheed Martin F-35B stealth fighter.
Pratt said the F135 propulsion system, which is still in production, is now certified for use in Lockheed’s fighter.
Pratt & Whitney said the propulsion system specializes in short takeoffs and vertical landings.
