South Windsor fuel cell manufacturer UTC Power has set an operating hours record for fuel cell buses.
UTC latest generation of PureMotion System fuel cell power plants has surpassed 10,000 operating hours in service for the bus operating in the Greater Oakland, Calif. transit system, using its original cell stack with no cell replacement. This generation started operating in 2005.
UTC Power, a subsidiary of Hartford conglomerate United Technologies Corp., has provided fuel cell for bus systems since 1998. The latest generation of the PureMotion System has 18 transit buses in service, operating in the CTTransit system and Greater Oakland’s Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District.
