A vendor helping construct the United Technologies Research Center in East Hartford received a $1 million awarded from the U.S. Department of Energy to make the building more efficient.
The grant to QM Power of Missouri funds the company’s efforts to develop higher efficiency low-cost electric motors for HVAC compressors and fan motor applications.
The UTRC project seeks to use magnets to reduce the size of the motor’s conductor loop and the energy needed to run it.
QM Power received a separate $1 million grant to develop fan motor technology for commercial refrigeration.
