United Technologies Corp.’s fuel cell division has cleared California’s strict air-quality threshold, widening the door to sales in that vast West Coast market.
The California Air Resources Board has issued a certification to UTC Power for its PureCell 400-kilowatt fuel cell.
UTC Power, based in South Windsor, is presently installing one of the cells in a Whole Foods Store under construction in San Jose, Calif.
Another unit will soon be installed at St. Helena’s Hospital in California’s Napa Valley, the company said.
