This October, Farmington’s United Technologies Corp. and National Geographic will present “Urban Expeditions,” a multimedia series exploring sustainability in global cities.
The initiative will identify research and exploration projects that are leading the way in sustainable urbanization in three key areas: food, buildings and transportation. Agents for change and opportunities for cities to advance more sustainably will be introduced from around the globe, the companies said.
National Geographic will feature analysis of possible solutions in a digital storytelling series that explores six global cities, beginning with Austin, Texas. Four global events also will be held in coming months, each featuring a cross-disciplinary group of experts and stakeholders who explore the future of cities and global sustainable urbanization.
The “historic” migration of people to cities can be achieved sustainably said John Mandyck, chief sustainability officer at United Technologies, if citizens and businesses “think differently” about these areas of growth.
