UTC names new Carrier, Otis CEOs

Farmington conglomerate United Technologies Corp. (UTC) named two executives to head its Carrier air-handling equipment and Otis Elevator divisions, effective immediately.

David L. Gitlin

David L. Gitlin, a UTC veteran, takes over as Carrier’s president and chief executive officer; and Judith F. Marks assumes the same posts at Otis, UTC Chairman and CEO Gregory Hayes said Monday.

Hayes said the moves come as UTC prepares to spin off Carrier and Otis as independent public companies.

Gitlin most recently served as president and chief operating officer of Collins Aerospace, which UTC obtained when it acquired former aerospace contractor Rockwell Collins for $30 billion last November.

Before that, he was president of UTC Aerospace Systems in Windsor Locks after leading the integration of former Goodrich Corp. with UTC. He also has experience in business development, strategy, and mergers and acquisitions.

Gitlin earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, a UConn law degree and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Judith F. Marks

Marks joined Otis as president in 2017 from German industrial conglomerate Siemens, where she served as CEO of Siemens USA and Dresser-Rand, a Siemens division.

Previously, she held senior leadership roles at Lockheed Martin and IBM. She earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and is a director of Shelton electrical- and electronic-products maker Hubbell Inc.
