United Technologies Corp. said it has hired a Covidien executive as its top lobbyist.
Timothy J. McBride, who starts work March 2 as senior vice president of government affairs, will represent the aerospace manufacturer’s interests in Congress and around the world, the company said. He will report to CEO Gregory Hayes.
McBride replaces Gregg Ward, who is retiring later this year after approximately seven years with UTC.
Covidien, an Irish medical device maker with its U.S. base in Massachusetts, was acquired in late January for nearly $43 billion. McBride was vice president of global government affairs there.
He previously worked for DaimlerChrysler, Freddie Mac and Sunoco. He was also President George H.W. Bush’s personal aide and later an assistant for management and administration, as well as assistant secretary of commerce for trade development.
Ward was hired in 2008, at the same time as Alain Bellemare, the former Hamilton Sundstrand president who recently took a job as CEO at Bombardier, and David Hess, the former Pratt & Whitney president who came out of retirement last month to rejoin UTC.
