The fruits of United Technologies Corp.’s multi-billion-dollar takeover of Goodrich Corp. are ripening: UTC’s renamed Goodrich division won a contract from its sister Pratt & Whitney division to build metal shrouds to house the Pratt engines sold to Brazilian jet-builder Embraer, business worth a potential $12 billion.
UTC Aerospace Systems, formerly Goodrich, said it will supply nacelles that will house Pratt’s PW1700G and PW1900G PurePower engines for Embraer’s second generation E-Jet, due to enter service in 2018.
UTC Aero said that, based on forecasts for Embraer aircraft orders, UTC Aerospace Systems estimates that this latest selection by Pratt will generate approximately $12 billion in sales over the life of the aircraft program.
Without UTC’s $16.5 billion buyout of Goodrich last summer, that chunk of nacelle business likely would have gone to Goodrich or some other company.
The nacelles will be assembled at UTC Aerospace’s Chula Vista, Calif., facility, authorities said Wednesday.
The division also supplies tailcones and nacelles for other Embraer planes.
