South Windsor fuel cell manufacturer UTC Power on Wednesday celebrated its latest stationary fuel cell reaching 200,000 hours of field operation.
The celebration comes a week after UTC Power celebrated its fuel cell buses operating in Greater Oakland, Calif. setting a record for operating hours. UTC Power is a subsidiary of Hartford conglomerate United Technologies Corp.
The fuel cell being celebrated on Wednesday is a PureCell Model 400 stationary fuel cell that generates power for buildings and other stationary uses. The previous version, PureCell® Model 200 System, has accumulated more than 9.4 million operating hours, an industry record.
Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy was at UTC Power on Wednesday as part of his Jobs Tour with businesses around the state. He called UTC Power was one of the most successful and innovative Connecticut companies, helping the state become a leader in the fuel cell industry.
Since the early 1990s, UTC Power has manufactured and installed more than 300 stationary fuel cell power plants in 19 countries.
