The research arm of aerospace manufacturer United Technologies Corp. said it has broken ground on a 100,000-square-foot R&D building in East Hartford.
The project, which United Technologies Research Center said will cost more than $50 million, is one of the requirements of a major deal state government struck with UTC last year, which allows the company to cash in $400 million in unused tax credits in exchange for investing $500 million in new facilities over the next five years.
UTRC said the new labs, engineering and office space will expand its research capabilities in intelligent systems, advanced materials and propulsion and power technology.
The project is slated for an early 2017 finish.
