UTC adds two years to tennis tourney sponsorship

United Technologies Corp. said it has renewed its fledgling sponsorship of the Connecticut Open women’s tennis tournament through 2017.

This summer’s tournament, slated for Aug. 21-29 at Yale University, will be the second year of UTC’s title sponsorship. The aerospace giant signed on a year ago to sponsor the former New Haven Open at Yale, and in doing so changed the name to the Connecticut Open Presented by United Technologies.

Before UTC signed on last June, the tournament had not had a title sponsor since 2010.

The tournament has commitments from defending champion Petra Kvitova and Madison Keys, among others.

There will also be a Men’s Legends Event featuring matches between John McEnroe and Jim Courier and James Blake and Andy Roddick.

Tickets are on sale now.

UTC said this year’s tournament aims to help nonprofits raise money by giving them tickets to sell, from which they will receive 50 percent of the net profits. The program begins June 22 and is called the 50/50 Project.

All active and retired military members will also receive two complimentary tickets, discounted additional tickets and access to a UTC-sponsored outpost at the tournament site, the company said.
