The University of St. Joseph and Congressman John B. Larson are expected to announce Monday a five-year, $2.1 million federal grant for the West Hartford liberal-arts school to improve pupil outreach and support.
USJ President Pamela Trotman Reid and Larson are due announce the Strengthening Institutions Grant from the U.S. Department of Education at 2 p.m. at Mercy Hall on the college’s campus.
SIP grants enable eligible schools to improve academic programs, institutional management and fiscal stability.
The $2,088,76 award will allow USJ to implement its Raising Educational ACHievement (REACH) Program to better meet the educational needs of students, especially those who are most at-risk, authorities said.
USJ will receive $449,272 in the first year of the five-year program, they said.
