U.S. OK’s Pratt engine for Sikorsky ‘copter

The Federal Aviation Administration has given thumbs up to Pratt & Whitney’s Canadian-built engine that will power Sikorsky’s S-76D helicopter.

Stratford’s Sikorsky Aircraft is relying on its sister division’s PW210S turbine to open up markets in North American and Europe for the civilian passenger helicopter.

Pratt & Whitney Canada won that nation’s engine certification back in October. Now, it awaits European signoff in coming months on the same engine as it prepares to get underway with sales of the S-76D next year.
