U.S. News and World Report has released its annual rankings of colleges and universities, and for the second straight year Yale University is in the top five, while UConn slipped a few spots.
Results for other Connecticut colleges were mixed, with some gaining ground in the rankings and others falling back.Â
Among national university rankings, Yale was deemed the best school in Connecticut. It ranked tied for third nationally with Stanford and Harvard universities, an improvement from a fifth place ranking last year.
Princeton University in New Jersey topped the charts for the second consecutive year.
UConn slipped a few spots in the national rankings, coming in at No. 67, compared to 63rd last academic year. However, it ranked 26th for public universities, down from No. 23 last year, tied with Texas A&M and University of Massachusetts–Amherst.
In addition, Quinnipiac University placed 166th in the 2022-23 rankings; down from 148th the previous year; Sacred Heart University ranked 219th in 2022-23, down from 202nd the previous year; and the University of Hartford was tied for 234th in the 2022-23 rankings, down from 213th the previous year.
Fairfield University ranked 115th in 2022-23 rankings.
In the national liberal arts college category, Wesleyan University placed 18th in 2022-23, down one notch from being tied for 17th the previous year; Trinity College moved up to 39th in 2022-23 from its ranking of a tie for 46th place the prior year; and Connecticut College ranked 55th in the national liberal arts college category, down five notches from being tied for 50th in 2021-22.
The U.S. News college and university rankings are now in their 38th year.
Rankings take into account numerous factors such as class size; enrolling, retaining and graduating students from diverse backgrounds; graduation rates and first-year retention rates; and even faculty salaries.
