Simsbury-based Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense Co. was awarded a $28.3-million contract from the U.S. Navy to provide detonation devices.
The devices Ensign-Bickford Aerospace will build for the Navy are explosives used for demolition, critical target destruction and clearing obstacles for the Naval Special Warfare Command, according to the Department of Defense.
Ensign-Bickford Aerospace, a subsidiary of Denver-based Ensign-Bickford Industries Inc., will complete the work over the next decade at its satellite facility in Graham, Ky., according to DOD.
The announcement of the contract comes a few months after the Simsbury firm, which also has a location in Moorpark, Calif., said it planned to expand its Simsbury headquarters, adding 140 jobs there, according to the Hartford Courant.
