The federal labor agency’s contract compliance chief Patricia Shiu brings her “listening tour” to New Britain on Wednesday to promote the agency’s “good jobs for everyone” mantra and to hear workers’ and contractors’ advice and concerns.
Shiu, director of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, will host “Listening to the Voices of Workers” from 1 to 3 p.m. at Central Connecticut State University’s Institute of Business and Technology, 185 Main St.
Authorities say the free, public forum is meant to encourage dialogue among construction workers, contractors, community organizations, unions and government officials and lawmakers to build relationships to ensure that contractors employ a diverse and qualified workforce on all projects.
Shiu’s office enforces the federal mandate that a minimum percentage of federal awards in the U.S. employ minorities and workers with disabilities.
