Firefighters in Willimantic and Montville have gotten $183,000 in federal funds to upgrade their operations and safety gear, authorities say.
The federal Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded $82,809 to Willimantic and $99,750 to Montville, Congressman Joe Courtney said Wednesday.
Both grants come from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. Funding from this program can be used for training firefighters and acquiring equipment and vehicles.
Recently, Sterling and Mansfield each shared $100,000 in federal funds to upgrade their fire departments.
