The Urban League of Greater Hartford has received a $20,000 grant from the Citizens Bank Foundation to support the organization’s successful financial education and foreclosure prevention programs.
The Urban League is a HUD-approved housing counseling agency that works with borrowers and lenders to resolve the financial challenges facing residents of the Greater Hartford region. The funding will be used by the league to expand the Financial Education and Foreclosure Prevention program, which helps clients assess their financial situation, determine what options are available, and negotiate a plan with lenders. Urban League counselors then work with clients to create a realistic monthly budget and payment schedule. Last year, the program helped 267 area families complete a “workout” to avoid foreclosure and save their homes.
