An upscale steakhouse and bar on the ground floor of the College and Crown luxury apartment building is among the latest additions to New Haven’s thriving downtown restaurant scene.
Restaurateur Bladimir Siguenza, whose family has run Scena Wine Bar in Darien and Washington Prime in South Norwalk, opened Jack’s Bar + Steakhouse at 212 College St. last month, saying he felt a steakhouse adds to the diversity of high-quality restaurants that are part of the Elm City’s trademark.
“I’m excited to be part of the culinary scene here,” said Siguenza, who joined city officials for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday afternoon.
The restaurant features prime-cut steaks and seafood, small dishes, hand-crafted cocktails, craft beer and an extensive wine list. It also offers a prix fixe lunch menu, happy hour specials and a private dining room for parties and business functions.
Mayor Toni Harp said the restaurant helps fulfill the vision for College and Crown, which opened in Oct. 2015 as part of a plan to “enhance the street-level vibrancy” of downtown. The building, located between Yale University and Yale New Haven Hospital, has 160 apartments and 20,000 square feet of retail space.
