Health Insurer UnitedHealthcare, which has major operations in Hartford, announced Friday that it will add 125 new jobs and make a multimillion-dollar investment to expand its operations in Roanoke, Va.
The company’s Roanoke operations support customer care and sales functions of the insurer’s Medicare and retirement business.
The Minnetonka, Minn., company’s Hartford operations support information technology, finance, actuarial and underwriting operations for UnitedHealth Group.
UnitedHealthcare officials said it is expanding in the Commonwealth State because of its “commitment to fostering a positive economic environment for employers.”
In Hartford, UnitedHealthcare recently opened 18 floors of new offices in  the CityPlace skyscraper on Asylum Street.
The move from Connecticut River Plaza on Columbus Boulevard involved more than 2,100 employees and cost more than $35 million to renovate the new space for more than a year.
