UnitedHealth sues to regain $24B contract

UnitedHealth Group Inc. isn’t giving up its fight to regain its $23.5 billion Tricare South contract that it lost to Humana Inc. — the Minnesota health insurer with operations in Hartford has now gone to court to try and get it back, The Dayton Business Journal reports.

UnitedHealth said it has sued the U.S. Department of Defense following a protest of the initial award of the contract to UnitedHealth in 2009.

UnitedHealth said in a news release that it sued the department in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.

Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealth learned last week that it had lost an appeal in its effort to hold onto the military contract. The five-year contract is set to begin April 1, 2012.
