UnitedHealth Group, with major operations in Hartford, grew its fourth quarter revenues by more than 8 percent, driving a $190-million increase in the health insurer’s profits, it reported.
Revenue for the quarter ended Dec. 31 was $31.12 billion, up from $28.77 billion in the fourth quarter of 2012. The increase was the result of higher revenue in the company’s Optum and UnitedHealth Care segments.
Net earnings for the quarter were $1.43 billion, up more than 15 percent from $1.24 billion a year ago.
For the year, the company’s revenue was up nearly 11 percent, to $122.49 billion. Net earnings grew just under 2 percent to $5.63 billion, or $5.50 per share.
For 2014, UnitedHealth expects revenue of between $128 billion and $129 billion and net earnings per share of between $5.40 and $5.60.
