Doug Elliot, 2008 United Way Community Campaign chairman, has unveiled $28.4 million as this year’s goal. Elliot, president and CEO of Hartford Steam Boiler, said the results of the campaign will be announced Nov. 19 at an event held at the Pratt & Whitney Hangar in East Hartford.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced that her “Care & Share” fundraising drive raised nearly $150,000 to help Connecticut Food Bank and Foodshare. Rell dedicated $25,000 to each food bank and put out a challenge to match the initial $50,000. The largest donor was the Credit Union League of Connecticut, which along with member credit unions, contributed nearly $60,000.
The Connecticut Health Foundation board of directors approved grants during its third-quarter board meeting totaling $227,000 to improve children’s mental health and oral health services, and reduce racial and ethnic health disparities. The Connecticut Association of School-Based Health Centers, a statewide association, was awarded a three-year, $225,000 capacity-building grant. The foundation also awarded a $2,000 grant to the University of Connecticut Health Center School of Medicine to support its migrant farm worker clinics.
Praline’s Ice Cream of Wallingford raised $5,000 in its first Cones for Kids fundraiser benefiting the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. All Praline’s retail locations participated; its Rocky Hill location was honored as the overall top fundraising store with $950.
Shipman & Goodwin attorney Meredith Williams was recently appointed to the Knox Parks Foundation board of directors. The foundation works in partnership with residents, businesses and government to build stronger, greener and more beautiful communities in Greater Hartford, with a special emphasis on Hartford.
Borgida & Company, certified public accountants, is holding its third Annual Fall Food Drive through Nov. 14. Donations of nonperishable food items or personal care items are sought. All items will be donated to Foodshare. Drop off location is 360 East Center St., Manchester.
