Our Mission: United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut’s mission is to engage and bring together people and resources committed to the well-being of children and families in our community.


Goals

• Ensure children are ready for school and young people stay on track, graduating high school on time prepared for college or career

• Individuals learn financial skills and qualify for good-paying jobs with opportunities for advancement

• Promote access to quality health care and wellness opportunities for children and families

• Help people who are going through tough times get the immediate, emergency assistance they need, such as food and shelter

Fundraising Events/Opportunities

United Way Women United’s Power of the Purse Luncheon and Silent Auction: Proceeds go to United Way-supported family financial center and other economic mobility programs. Since 2011, United Way Women United has raised nearly $1.5 million to provide financial services for women and families in Greater Hartford.

United Way Women United’s Red, White and Chocolate: Proceeds from this annual wine, chocolate and cheese tasting event provide funding for programs and services that help women and families become more financially secure.

United Way Emerging Leaders Society Case Competition: United Way Emerging Leaders Society (ELS) created the ELS Case Competition to provide leadership development and engagement opportunities for young professionals. Teams are paired with executive mentors to develop innovative ways of partnering with United Way and their companies in advancing corporate social responsibility goals and contributing to positive community change. Teams present before a panel of area corporate executives and innovative ideas are shared by United Way with area companies to assist in achieving shared community goals and to attract and retain young professionals to the Greater Hartford area.

• Include United Way in your estate planning

Volunteer Opportunities

• Prepare taxes for lower- to moderate-wage earning families to ensure they receive the refunds and credits they’ve earned through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program

• As a United Way Reader, work one-on-one weekly with a kindergartener through third grader to improve their literacy skills.

• Organize a group of family, friends or co-workers for a United Way kit project. These projects offer a valuable teambuilding opportunity while making an impact for local children and families. Projects include:

– Interview Success Kits

– Literacy Kits

– Playcation Kits

– Summer Supply Kits

– Toiletry Kits
