Ken Corneau, the founder of East Hartford-based fabricator United Steel, is handing over the company’s chief executive post to his son Keith, the company said.
United Steel, New England’s largest fabricator and erector of structural steel and metals, on Wednesday announced Keith Corneau has taken over the family business as CEO and president. Ken Corneau, who founded the company in 1974, will serve as its board chairman.
Keith Corneau, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, began sweeping shop floors in 1997 before moving up the company’s ladder and being appointed executive vice president in 2012, officials said.
Since his appointment as executive vice president, the company said it’s more than doubled its annual revenues to more than $100 million and has grown its workforce to about 225 people. Keith’s two brothers also work for the family business.
Keith Corneau was named to Hartford Business Journal’s 40 Under Forty class in 2016.
“I learned from the best while working side-by-side with Ken and the other executives at United Steel to understand every aspect of our business and how to be the best in the industry,” he said.
United Steel is headquartered in a 200,000-square-foot automated manufacturing facility at 164 School St. in East Hartford.
