United Airlines workers join aerospace union

Employees for United Airlines and Continental Airlines – both with flights out of Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks – have joined the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace workers.

More than 14,100 fleet and ramp workers for the merged carrier will be represented by the IAM.

All the employees were previously represented by a union, but they were split between the IAM and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, as the two unions represented the workers when United and Continental were two companies.

The election to choose between IAM and the Teamsters was conducted by the National Mediation Board in Washington, D.C.
