Union to protest MDC layoffs

Members of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees will protest plans by the Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority to transfer operations of its highest profile plant.

CRRA plans to use North American Energy Services instead of the Metropolitan District Council to operate its Mid-Connecticut Project trash-to-energy plant.

As part of the transfer, 71 employees will lose their jobs with MDC and be offered the same jobs with NAES at the same salary but not the same benefits.

AFSCME officials will begin their protest Tuesday afternoon.
