Danbury-based Union Savings Bank (USB) has added the Zelle digital payment system to its mobile app, the company announced Thursday.
USB’s 23,000 mobile customers can now use the digital network served by Zelle, which claims more than 150 million users at institutions of all sizes. Users of Zelle can instantly send money to other users with a few clicks.
Peter Scotch, senior vice president and director of USB’s Innovation Center, said, “We are excited about the addition of Zelle, which provides our customers with a convenient, safe way to send money right within the USB mobile app.”
Money sent with Zelle goes directly from one bank account in the U.S. to another, via the recipient’s email address or U.S. mobile phone number. If both parties are enrolled in Zelle, funds are typically available within minutes.
USB, a $3 billion mutual bank with 25 offices around the state, announced in December it had added an AI-powered tool to its mobile banking app that allows customers to track spending and better manage their finances. In October, it launched a new service, called “Early Payday,” which gives the bank’s customers access to their paycheck deposits up to two days faster.
