The Ukrainian National Home of Hartford recently paid $1.6 million for a Cromwell office building that will serve as its new cultural and events center.
Armonk, New York-based IJAN 2 CT Realty LLC sold an 18-year-old, 12,324-square-foot office building on 1.4 acres at 5 Commerce Drive in Cromwell to UNHH LLC.
The deal was recorded in Cromwell’s land records on Oct. 2.
UNHH LLC shares a Hartford address with the Ukrainian cultural group’s social and cultural center. A UNHH representative declined to comment.
A recorded message left on the group’s answering service on Nov. 21 noted the group is moving to a new location in Cromwell.
During a July 6 meeting, the Cromwell Planning and Zoning Commission approved a special permit allowing on-site consumption of alcoholic beverages at 5 Commerce Drive. A representative of the 220-member Ukrainian group said it is buying the building for nonprofit cultural activities, music lessons, youth activities, dancing and social events, according to the minutes of the July 6 meeting.Â
The social club will also be serving alcohol and food to members. It will run from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. nightly, with anticipation of 10 to 25 customers at any one time, according to the July 6 minutes.Â
The Ukrainian group has organized humanitarian relief for Ukraine following the Russian invasion, according to the July 6 meeting minutes. The group intends to change its name to the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of Connecticut, according to the July 2 meeting minutes.Â
IJAN 2 CT Realty’s principals are Irwin Stockel, of White Plains, New York; and Jon R. Stockel, of Boca Raton, Florida.
In October, IJAN 2 CT Realty sold two medical office buildings on a single 5.4-acre property in Torrington for $8.15 million.
In October 2021, IJAN sold a 7,074-square-foot retail building anchored by a Family Dollar in New Britain for $775,000.
Philip L. Gagnon and Sean A. Kumnick, both with Colliers, represented the seller and procured the buyer of the Cromwell office building.
