New Haven utility UIL Holdings Corp. – which has four electric and natural gas subsidiaries – launched an advertising campaign to encourage Connecticut residents to heat their homes with natural gas.
UIL Holdings acquired the Connecticut Natural Gas Corp., Southern Connecticut Gas Co. and the Bershire Gas Co. in Massachusetts for $1.3 billion last year. This moved the utility into the natural gas industry, where previously it only offered electricity through United Illuminating.
The advertising campaign focused on the high cost of fuel oil and how Connecticut residents can save half off their heating bills by switching to natural gas.
“With a growing concern about oil prices, and the public’s desire for a domestic and greener alternative to keep their homes warm, we felt that now was an opportune time to educate the public about the positive benefits of converting to natural gas,” said John Dobos, director of marketing and sales for the two UIL Connecticut natural gas companies. “Natural gas is the economical, abundant and environmentally friendly fuel of choice for Connecticut residents.”
In a separate announcement on Wednesday, UIL Holdings Corp. declared a quarterly dividend of 43.2 cents a share on its common stock to be paid July 1 to stockholders of record as of June 17.
