UI, gas affiliates doing customer face time

The United Illuminating Co. and Southern Connecticut Gas will host a series of community meetings with Connecticut customers, the first of which is Wednesday in West Haven.

New Haven parent UIL Holdings Corp. and its four operating companies -United Illuminating Southern Connecticut Gas, Connecticut Natural Gas and The Berkshire Gas Co. – are doing the meetings in the wake of UIL’s acquisition of the three gas utilities last November from Spain’s Iberdrola SA.

The acquisition resulted in an energy utility conglomerate that serves 690,000 customers in 66 communities in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

The Connecticut kicks off on Wednesday, with a community meeting at 7 p.m. at the Savin Rock Conference Center in West Haven.

The series will continue through October, covering a variety of topics including an introduction to UIL, conservation, energy efficiency, natural gas and electric safety, the environmental benefits of natural gas, storm response, among other topics.
