The Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut in Meriden received a Gold Pollie Award from the American Association of Political Consultants for one of its television commercials. The “Poor Coverage” commercial was recognized in the state grassroots, issue advocacy and public affairs category as one of the best public affairs works of 2007.
The Human Resource Association of Central Connecticut in Berlin received the Superior Merit Chapter designation from the Society for Human Resource Management. The organization was recognized for the scope of its work in perpetuating and supporting the mission of the society in 2007.
The Comprehensive Breast Health Center at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford received a $50,000 grant from the Charlotte Johnson Hollfelder Foundation. The funds will support renovations of the facility to improve access to state-of-the-art digital mammography and clinical care.
The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford in West Hartford awarded a $6,000 grant through the Lillian Fund to the Center for Women’s Justice. The donation will help women in Israel fight for their rights in the Israeli court system.
The 15th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event in Bushnell Park raised $400,000 for the American Cancer Society in Meriden. More than 3,000 participants completed the five-mile walk to honor breast cancer survivors. Funds from the event will be used for research, information and services to improve the quality of life for patients.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts is accepting applications for grants to be awarded in the first quarter of 2009. Projects must impact children in Connecticut or Western Massachusetts in the areas of education and the arts, health care and medical research or civic and social services.
