UHart business school dean Roth to lead West Virginia university

Martin S. (Marty) Roth, dean of the University of Hartford’s Barney School of Business, has been named president of the University of Charleston in West Virginia.

Roth will become the 26th president of Charleston, a private university of approximately 2,400 students, on July 1.

Serving as Barney School dean since July 2013, Roth came to UHart after serving as chair of the University of South Carolina’s Sonoco International Business Department in its Moore School of Business.

UHart President Gregory Woodward said Roth built strong relationships with Greater Hartford’s business community, improved a career-ready focus for the Barney curriculum, and led a $4.3 million fundraising campaign to expand and renovate Auerbach Hall. The fundraising campaign is expected to reach its goal within the next month, Woodward said.
