UConn’s new Groton nursing simulation lab

The University of Connecticut’s School of Nursing is opening a fourth medical simulation lab at UConn’s Avery Point-Groton campus to give pupils hands-on skills training.

The new facility is launching Thursday in connection with the debut of the nursing school’s new Masters Entry Into Nursing (MEIN) program to train nursing candidates. MEIN is designed for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field to pursue a career in nursing.

The Groton MEIN campus means nursing students in the eastern half of the state no longer must travel to UConn’s campuses in Waterbury, Stamford or Storrs to participate in classroom or simulated clinical activities.

The fast track program allows participants to become eligible to take the registered nurse licensure exam after the successful completion of a calendar year of coursework.

UConn says it produces about 200 basic nursing graduates annually.
