UConn’s Herbst wants to nearly triple endowment

UConn President Susan Herbst said a $1 billion endowment for the school remains her long-term goal.

The school’s endowment is approximately $366 million, after receiving a record $81.1 million in donations last year. That was up 23 percent over 2012, the school said.

Last year, the foundation hired a new leader, Josh Newton, to help get it started on its path to $1 billion.
