It’s getting more competitive to get into the state’s flagship university these days.
UConn received a record number of applications for its incoming freshman class — more than 39,000 — with 5,450 students enrolled in fall courses set to begin next week across UConn’s five campuses.
The university said it received more than 39,000 applications for this year’s freshman class, up from just over 38,000 last year, and 10,000 more than five years ago.
Of the 5,450 freshmen enrollees, 77 percent are residents of Connecticut, and 41 percent are people of color, according to UConn. While the class size is in line with the Class of 2022, this year’s freshman class has about 5 percent more Connecticut residents.
Of freshmen entering UConn, about 3,650 will enroll at the university’s flagship campus in Storrs. A total of 4,600 students — including the class of 2023 — will enroll at UConn’s campuses in Hartford, Stamford, Waterbury and Avery Point, according to UConn.
A total of about 24,200 students attending UConn this semester marks a record high, the school said.
