UConn is breaking ground Monday morning for construction of its downtown Hartford campus opening in fall 2017.
Mayor Pedro E. Segarra is being joined by the governor, UConn President Susan Herbst and others at 11 a.m. in front of the Prospect Street site of the former Hartford Times building, the anchor for the campus.
The state’s flagship university will eventually relocate its West Hartford campus into that building, plus a new, separate structure with classrooms, offices and meeting spaces to be erected adjacent to the Times building, and will house retail on the ground floor.
Together, the downtown campus will serve about 2,300 students and 250 faculty.
Prospect Street will be closed between Front and Arch Streets from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m..
