UConn to hire VP for economic development

The University of Connecticut is searching for a new senior executive to lead its economic development efforts, The Associated Press reports.

UConn started advertising the vice president job earlier this month in higher education publications. Officials did not set a hiring deadline, saying they will take resumes until they fill the newly created spot.

UConn President Susan Herbst has said in interviews soon after her arrival this spring that the school plays a major role in creating jobs in Connecticut, developing a skilled work force, using new technology for commercial purposes and helping businesses grow.

The new vice president will work with state and business officials on those issues. The executive also oversee specific UConn projects and collaborate with administrators on curriculum and research that meet industries’ needs.
