S. Pamir Alpay has been named executive director of UConn’s Innovation Partnership Building at the UConn Tech Park.
Effective immediately, Alpay will lead the university’s Tech Park in efforts to establish new industry partnerships that connect with tech park resources, staff and UConn faculty, said Radenka Maric, whom Alpay is replacing. Maric was promoted in July to vice president of research at UConn and UConn Health.
Alpay, who also is a professor of materials science and engineering, has already worked closely with several companies associated with the Tech Park. He leads the UTAS Center for Advanced Materials, which will be housed in the IPB, Maric said.
Alpay received his Ph.D. in materials science and engineering (MSE) in 1999 from the University of Maryland. He remained at the University of Maryland in the Materials Research Center as a postdoctoral research associate until 2001, and then came to UConn as an assistant professor. He became a full professor in 2010 and since 2013, has served as the department Head of MSE at UConn.
