UConn targets on-campus carbon neutrality by 2030

University of Connecticut President Radenka Maric, who has made climate change and sustainability initiatives a top priority, recently told the Hartford Business Journal that UConn has set a goal to achieve on-campus carbon neutrality by 2030.

The sustainability initiative will run the gamut and include how the university provides clean energy to operate its buildings and vehicles to increasing opportunities for students to take part in research through experiential learning opportunities. Maric said a new sustainability action plan will be posted on the school’s website in the coming months with specific targets and goals.

In October, UConn, R/GA Ventures and CTNext announced a multi-year initiative to identify startups working in the areas of climate change and sustainability.

The three entities will launch the Future Climate Venture Studio, whose goal is to identify and accelerate those startups. The collaboration will offer those startups financial capital and networking opportunities to business strategists, technologists, designers and consultants.

R/GA Ventures is a New York City-based startup accelerator and CTNext is a state agency focused on public-private partnerships to help boost the state’s innovation ecosystem.
