UConn reaches tentative agreements with three of its unions

The University of Connecticut Board of Trustees on Wednesday approved a tentative collective bargaining agreement with three of the school’s unions, all part of the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition, or SEBAC.

The agreements were made with the University of Connecticut Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP),  which represents faculty; University of Connecticut Graduate Employees Union (GEU-UAW), which represents graduate students; and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Union (UCPEA), which represents staff.

On Friday, Gov. Ned Lamont announced that his administration had reached agreement on 35 collectively bargained contracts with SEBAC (including the three related to UConn) and had forwarded them onto the state Legislature for their approval.

The tentative agreements include 2.5% general wage increases and step increases retroactive to July 1, 2021, and then with consideration again for a 2.5% general wage increase and step increases for each union on July 1, 2022 and July 1, 2023. In the fourth year, the parties will meet again to renegotiate wages.

The agreements, the governor’s office said, also include special lump sum payments ($2,500 for active employees who were with the state before March 31, 2022; $1,000 for those employed on July 15, 2022; and a prorated bonus for part-time employees).

The governor’s office said the cost estimates for the new contracts are still to be determined.
