UConn President Maric names D’Alleva permanent provost

University of Connecticut President Radenka Maric this week named longtime UConn faculty member and interim provost Anne D’Alleva to the post of permanent provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.

D’Alleva starts her new job Dec. 1.

D’Alleva, who had been interim provost since the spring, previously was dean of the School of Fine Arts and has been a UConn faculty member since 1999. The 58-year-old became interim provost in May following the departure of then-Provost Carl Lejuez.

Maric said D’Alleva will play a major role in UConn’s work in areas such as climate change and clean energy, human rights, cybersecurity, computer science and health sciences, among others.

In her role, D’Alleva will oversee UConn’s 14 colleges and schools and four regional campuses, among other responsibilities.

The provost’s office, Maric said, also leads UConn’s strategic planning, academic policies and procedures, global affairs, institutional research and university libraries.

In a statement, D’Alleva said: “Over the past few months, I’ve gained fresh insight into the many strengths of our university community and, especially, the talent, dedication, and caring of our faculty, students, and staff. … My goal as provost is to support and enhance those strengths as we work together to educate our students for an interconnected, diverse, and rapidly changing world; expand scholarship and research across the disciplines; and serve the state and nation by addressing our most pressing problems, from health disparities to climate change.”

D’Alleva received her bachelor’s degree in art history from Harvard University, and her master’s and Ph.D. in art history from Columbia University with a graduate certificate in feminist theory.
