Congressman Joe Courtney made good on a wager Tuesday with Democratic Congressman Tom Cole from Oklahoma, sending Mystic Pizza down to Sooner country after Oklahoma defeated the University of Connecticut Huskies in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s Day, 48-20.
Before the bowl game, Courtney, the Democrat from Connecticut, and Cole made a wager with Cole offering Chicksaw Nation’s Bedre Chocolates against four pizzas from the famed Mystic Pizza – cheese, pepperoni, veggie and Mediterranean. The pizzas were shipped overnight to Washington, D.C. and arrived Tuesday morning.
“I am disappointed UConn did not pull off an upset, but I’m proud to share Connecticut’s own Mystic Pizza with my friend from Oklahoma,” Courtney said in a statement. “The spirit of civility is alive and well today.”
Despite winning the bet, Cole still gave a basket of Bedre Chocolates to Courtney.
